Indeed, founding partner Will Terpening’s first major trial success involved obtaining the acquittal of a prominent Wilmington tax attorney in Charlotte federal court (Western District of North Carolina). Since then, Mr. Terpening has represented attorneys in a wide variety of matters, including federal criminal litigation involving real estate attorneys accused of mortgage fraud and trust account embezzlement.

  • Successfully litigated in Wake County, North Carolina Superior Court on behalf of a large international retailer to prevent North Carolina Department of Revenue from sharing documents produced in audit with other taxing authorities or parties. The Department of Revenue had applied a state statute to allow sharing of tax information with other states for nearly a century – we challenged that interpretation of the law and won.
  • Resolution of IRS criminal willful failure to file charges, in a manner that avoided deportation or prison time, against chiropractor who did not file returns or pay income tax for several years.
