Steve’s legal career started on the streets of New Orleans—investigating homicides, armed robberies, and other serious cases for the public defenders. There, he found the values of client-centered advocacy and intellectual skepticism that would drive him in law school and legal practice.
As an investigator, and later as a public defender in Greater Boston, Steve loved being the lone voice in the client’s corner. Steve’s practice as an Associate Attorney continues to be guided by that sense of loyalty to Terpening Law clients, who are facing high stakes in white-collar criminal and civil cases.
Steve sharpened his critical view of criminal prosecutions after investigations continually revealed the unreliability of the State’s evidence, such as eyewitness identifications and police interrogations. Steve developed a critical eye to researching and applying the law as a summer clerk for the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court and private legal practices in Boston and New Orleans. Today, he brings that same critical approach to the facts and law underpinning each Terpening Law case.
Terpening Law prides itself in hardworking, tireless advocacy. Steve employs a tireless and inquisitive work ethic to each case on his desk. The desire to help our clients facing life-altering circumstances motivates him for the tough work needed to get favorable results.
Steve graduated cum laude from Boston College with a B.A. in English. He obtained a full-tuition, merit-based scholarship to attend Northeastern University School of Law, where he obtained his Juris Doctor. He is licensed to practice law in Massachusetts, with bar licenses pending in North Carolina, South Carolina, and New Hampshire.
